Planning to travel with your furry friend seated beside you in the cabin? It is worthwhile to show your adherence to the IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR) as well as the In-Cabin Live Animal Checklist in LAR. The special section – 7.6.2 relates to furry pets who accompany the owner in the cabin. It is mandated by the IATA LAR regulations that pets should be inside a spacious crate and comfortably placed underneath the seat. The size and shape of the crate are furthermore guided by specific limitations and CR1 Components. Therefore, it becomes very essential that the passenger should discuss the crate size dimensions with the individual airlines for placing the dog or the cat in the cabin area. Quite obviously, furry pets experience an enervating ripple effect, and which is the reason that they should not be disturbed during the journey at all, or rather have minimal displacement. Moreover, domesticated animals desire dim light because of the soothing experience and the amelioration of stress.

Is the dog or cat old enough to travel in a cabin?

The pets who are under 8 weeks or belong to the category or unweaned are not allowed to travel in the cabin or the airplane by itself. In fact, you need to go through the guidelines of each country as well as read the age-related policies of the airlines.

Pet Health Policy

Airlines are serious about the health of your pet, and just in case if your pet has an injury, or shows signs of infirmities, your pet will not be allowed a seat on the airline. A seat is allowed only if you present a health certificate describing the details of the chronic condition of your dog or cat.

Carry the Updated and Most Recent Import and Travel Documentation

The extent of convenience by which your cat or dog will travel in the cabin on an international trip is entirely based on the fact that you have a valid proof of the import and travel documentation. This documentation would require you to have complete information of laws and relevant regulations applied in the country where your dog or cat is flying. The best part is that you check with respective airlines or the embassy of the country.

Active Restrictions on Dog and Cat Breeds

There are breeds of dogs and cats that come under the scanner, and for which reason the airlines have placed restrictions on them. In this way, the owners cannot travel with these restrictive dog and cat breeds in the cabin. There are also many airlines serving the international routes that have put limitations on the dogs or cats which are allowed in the cabin area. The restrictions are even rigid if it is a narrow body aircraft type on a medium haul flight to another country.

Absolutely No Sedation or Tranquilizers

If your dog or cat is put on sedation or tranquilized, it is not allowed to travel in the cabin by the airline. There is a very high risk for transporting sedated dogs and animals as such pets will have minimal responses to stress while on air journey. Administration of sedative drugs is possible only under the supervision of veterinarian.

The Container should be Appropriately Labeled

The container in which the dog or cat is placed for air journey should be labeled as “Live Animal”. Moreover, the pet placed underneath the cabin seat should have strong adherence to the IATA guidelines. Soft sided containers are not generally recommended as these could be compressed while adjusting them underneath the seat, and as a result the ventilation is likely stopped.

Verdict

The time is right that you start thinking about the easiest and comfortable ways in which you can carry your dog or the cat seated inside the cabin. The more you focus on the comfort of your furry friend, the better it is going to be for them to enjoy their air journey in your company.
